Abstract: An apparatus includes a movable member and a valve coupled to the movable member. The movable member is configured to be disposed within a housing of a medical device and has a first end portion and second end portion. A portion of the first end portion is configured to define a portion of a boundary of a gas chamber. The first end portion defines an opening configured to be in fluid communication between the gas chamber and an area outside the gas chamber. The second end portion is configured to be coupled to a needle configured to deliver a medicament into a body. The valve is configured to selectively allow fluid communication between the gas chamber and the area outside the gas chamber through the opening defined by the first end portion of the movable member.

Patent Claims: 1. An apparatus, comprising: a housing; a medicament container disposed within the housing; a delivery member configured to be in fluid communication with the medicament container, the delivery member moveably disposed between a first position, in which the delivery member is disposed within the housing, and a second position, in which a portion of the delivery member extends from the housing; a retraction member configured to bias the delivery member towards the first position; a moveable member having a first portion and a second portion; and an energy storage member configured to produce a force to move the delivery member from the first position to the second position and to move the first portion of the moveable member within the medicament container to expel a medicament from the medicament container via the delivery member, the second portion of the moveable member configured to interface with a release member after at least a portion of the medicament has been expelled to release the force from at least one of the moveable member or the delivery member.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the retraction member causes the delivery member to move towards the first position when the force is released.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the delivery member is a needle.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the retraction member is a spring.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein: the energy storage member is a compressed gas container; and the second portion of the moveable member includes a gas release valve configured to be actuated when the second portion of the moveable member is interfaced with the release member.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the second portion of the moveable member includes a valve, the apparatus further comprising: a medicament carrier, the medicament container coupled to the medicament carrier, the medicament carrier including the release member, the release member configured to engage the valve when the moveable member has moved to expel the medicament.

7. the apparatus of claim 1, wherein a portion of the release member is disposed within the second portion of the moveable member when the second portion of the moveable member is interfaced with the release member.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the second portion of the moveable member is configured to irreversibly interface with the release member.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the medicament container includes epinephrine.

10. An apparatus comprising: a housing; a medicament container disposed within the housing; a delivery member configured to be disposed within the housing when the delivery member is in a first position, a portion of the delivery member extending from the housing when the delivery member is in a second position; an actuation assembly configured to move the delivery member from the first position to the second position and to convey a medicament from the medicament container via the delivery member; a retraction member moveably disposed within the housing, the retraction member including a protrusion; a release mechanism configured to engage the protrusion when the medicament has been conveyed; and a biasing member configured to move the delivery member from the second position towards the first position when the release mechanism is engaged with the protrusion.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the retraction member defines a recess configured to receive a portion of the biasing member.

12. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the release mechanism and the protrusion remain engaged when the delivery member moves from the second position towards the first position.

13. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the biasing member is a spring configured to be compressed when the delivery member moves from the first position to the second position.

14. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the protrusion is disposed on a proximal end portion of the retraction member.

15. The apparatus of claim 10, further comprising: a moveable member having a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, the distal end portion configured to dispense the medicament from the medicament container, the proximal end portion including the release mechanism.

16. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the delivery member is needle configured to be selectively fluidically coupled to the medicament container.

17. An apparatus comprising: a housing; a carrier assembly disposed within the housing, the carrier assembly including: a medicament container; a delivery member; a moveable member configured to move between a first position and a second position, a first portion of the moveable member including a release mechanism, a second portion of the moveable member disposed within the medicament container, the second portion including a piston configured to dispense the medicament from the medicament container via the delivery member when the moveable member moves from the first position to the second position; a release actuator configured to engage the release mechanism when the moveable member is in the second position; an actuation assembly configured to produce a force to move the carrier assembly from a first carrier assembly position to a second carrier assembly position and to move the moveable member from the first moveable member position to the second moveable member position; and a retraction member configured to move the carrier assembly towards the first position when the release actuator engages the release mechanism.

18. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the first portion of the moveable member is the proximal portion.

19. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the release mechanism is configured to release the force from the carrier assembly when the release actuator engages the release mechanism.

20. The apparatus of claim 17, wherein the force moves the carrier from the first carrier position to the second carrier position and the moveable member from the first moveable member position to an intermediate position at a first time, the intermediate position being between the first moveable member position and the second moveable member position, the force moves the moveable member from the intermediate position to the second moveable member position at a second time, the second time being after the first time.
