Patent Claims: 1. A method of treating hypertension and reducing incidence of hypokalemia in a patient in need of treatment thereof, the method comprising the steps of: administering to said patient (5-methyl-2-oxo-1,3-dioxol-4-yl)methyl 2-ethoxy-1-{[2'-(5-oxo-4,5-dihydro-1,2,4oxadiazol-3-yl)biphenyl-4-yl]meth- yl}-1H-benzimidazole-7-carboxylate potassium salt in an amount selected from the group consisting of about 40 mg per day and about 80 mg per day, and chlorthalidone in an amount selected from the group consisting of about 12.5 mg per day and 25.0 mg per day, wherein the hypokalemia is greater than the reduction in incidence of hypokalemia is lower than the incidence of hypokalemia provided by 12.5 mg or 25.0 mg per day of chlorthalidone alone.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the hypertension is essential hypertension, secondary hypertension, arterial hypertension, pulmonary arterial hypertension or portal vein hypertension.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the benzimidazole derivative and chlorthalidone are administered as separate dosage forms.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the benzimidazole derivative is administered as a tablet.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the chlorthalidone is administered as a tablet.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the benzimidazole derivative and chlorthalidone are administered together in a single dosage form.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the single dosage form is a tablet.
