Title: | Devices, systems and methods for medicament delivery |
Abstract: | A method includes moving an actuation lock of a medical injector from a first position to a second position. The actuation lock has an extended portion disposed between a shoulder of a housing and the base when the actuation lock is in the first position. The extended portion is spaced apart from the base when the actuation lock is in the second position. A distal end portion of a base, which is movably coupled to an end portion of the housing, is placed into contact with a body. The base is actuated after the placing to release an energy from an energy storage member within the housing to produce a force to move a needle from a first needle position to a second needle position. At least a portion of the needle extends through the base when the needle is in the second needle position. |

Patent Claims: |
1. An apparatus comprising: a housing having a distal end portion; a medicament container disposed within the housing; a plunger having a distal end configured to move within the medicament container between a first position and a second position in response to a first force; a needle coupled to the medicament container; a needle sheath covering the needle; and a sheath retainer configured to be disposed about at least a portion of the needle sheath, the sheath retainer including a grip surface configured to be manipulated by a user to move the sheath retainer distally relative to the housing, the sheath retainer including at least one retaining tab that engages the needle sheath and is configured to transfer a removal force to the needle sheath to remove the needle sheath from about the needle when the sheath retainer is moved distally; and a case configured to contain at least the distal end portion of the housing, the case surrounding the needle when the distal end portion of the housing is within the case. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the needle sheath covering the needle is configured to maintain sterility of the needle. 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the medicament container contains epinephrine. 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the medicament container is configured to move within the housing, the apparatus further comprising: a spring configured to urge the medicament container in a proximal direction. 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one retaining tab includes a plurality of tabs configured to exert the removal force against the needle sheath when the sheath retainer is moved distally relative to the housing to remove the needle sheath from the needle. 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein: the housing is configured to be removed from within the case; and the case limits distal movement of the sheath retainer when the housing is within the case. 7. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising: a pressurized gas container disposed within the housing, the pressurized gas container configured to produce a force when actuated; and the pressurized gas container being operably coupled to the plunger such that the force is exerted on the plunger to cause a distal end of the plunger to move within the medicament container to expel a medicament. 8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein: the pressurized gas container includes a spring loaded check ball and gas release mechanism, and the pressurized gas container is configured to release pressurized gas and produce the force when the spring loaded check ball is depressed. 9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein: the housing defines a status window; a contents of the medicament container are viewable through the status window; and the status window is covered by the case when the housing is disposed within the case. 10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein an outer surface of the sheath retainer includes an indicium indicating an order of operation for removal of the sheath retainer. 11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the needle sheath includes an indicium indicating an order of operation for removal of the sheath retainer. 12. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising: an elastomeric member disposed within the medicament container; and an actuator coupled to the housing, the actuator configured to move from a first actuator position to a second actuator position to produce the first force to move the elastomeric member within the medicament container to expel a medicament from within the medicament container via the needle. 13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the grip surface is configured to receive the removal force to move the sheath retainer in the distal direction relative to the housing. 14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein: an outer surface of the sheath retainer includes an indicium with a first arrow oriented in a direction of removal for the sheath retainer; the needle sheath includes an indicium with a second arrow oriented in a direction of removal for the needle sheath; and the orientation of the first arrow is different from the orientation of the second arrow. |
