Patent Claims:	1. A method for the treatment of cholestatic liver disease, atherosclerosis, arteriosclerosis, hypercholesteremia, or hyperlipidemia comprising administering a pharmaceutical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of formula (I) ##STR00007## or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or amino acid conjugates thereof, wherein R is ethyl and at least one pharmaceutical carrier or diluent, wherein said compound is administered at 0.01 mg/kg to 100 mg/kg per dose. 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is administered orally. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the composition is administered as a single daily dose. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the administration is the compound of formula I ##STR00008##
