Patent Claims: 1. A composition comprising deoxycholate and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient and/or carrier, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of less than 1 ppt.

2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of less than 0.9 ppt.

3. An aqueous pharmaceutical composition comprising deoxycholate and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient and/or carrier, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of less than 1 ppt.

4. The composition of claim 3, wherein the DCA has a .sup.14C content of less than 0.9 ppt.

5. An aqueous pharmaceutical composition comprising deoxycholate, phosphatidyl choline, and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient and/or carrier, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of less than 1 ppt.

6. The composition of claim 5, wherein the DCA has a .sup.14C content of less than 0.9 ppt.

7. The composition of claim 1, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of 0.87 ppt.

8. The composition of claim 1, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of 0.88 ppt.

9. The composition of claim 1, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of 0.89 ppt.

10. The composition of claim 3, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of 0.87 ppt.

11. The composition of claim 3, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of 0.88 ppt.

12. The composition of claim 3, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of 0.89 ppt.

13. The composition of claim 5, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of 0.87 ppt.

14. The composition of claim 5, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of 0.88 ppt.

15. The composition of claim 5, wherein the deoxycholate has a .sup.14C content of 0.89 ppt.

16. A method for removing fat cells, said method comprising contacting said fat cells with an effective amount of a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of a deoxycholic acid (DCA), wherein said DCA has a .sup.14C content of less than 1 ppt.
