A therapuetic antibacterial composition effective in the treatment of sulfamethoxazole resistant bacterial infections comprising from about 1 to about 30 parts of a sulfonamide selected from the group consisting of 5-methyl-3-sulfanilamidoisoxazole and alkali metal salts thereof with pharmaceutically acceptable bases and one part of a pyrimidine selected from the group consisting of 2,4-diamino-5-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl) pryimidine and salts thereof with

A therapeutic antibacterial composition effective in the treatment of bacterial infections in warm-blooded animals which are caused by sulfamethoxazole resistant strains of bacteria for internal administration in shaped dosage unit form comprising from about 250 mg. to about 750 mg. of 5-methyl-3-sulfanilamidoisoxazole or an alkali metal salt thereof with a pharmaceutically acceptable base and from about 12.5 mg. to about 75 mg. of 2,4-diamino-5-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl) pyrimidine or a salt thereof

with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid..]. 7. A process for treating a warm-blooded animal afflicted with a bacterial disease .Iadd.caused by sulfomethoxazole resistant strains of bacteria .Iaddend.comprising orally administering to said warm-blooded animal a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising from about 1 to about 30 parts of a sulfonamide selected from the group consisting of 5-methyl-3-sulfanilamidoisoxazole and alkali metal salts thereof with pharmaceutically acceptable bases and one part of a pyrimidine selected from the group consisting of 2,4-diamino-5-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl)

pyrimidine and salts thereof with pharmaceutically acceptable acids. 8. A process in accordance with claim 7 wherein the therapeutically effective amount of the composition comprises from about 250 mg. to about 750 mg. of 5-methyl-3-sulfanilamidoisoxazole or an alkali metal salt thereof with a pharmaceutically acceptable base and from about 12.5 mg. to 75 mg. of 2,4-diamino-5-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl) pyrimidine or a salt thereof with a pharmaceutically acceptable acid.
